Home Inventory Facts
Why a Complete Home Inventory is a Smart Move!
Insurance-Canada strongly recommends a thorough documentation of your property, in case of fire, theft or natural disaster. This is the exact definition of what a complete home inventory is and why you should act now to complete it - before it is too late.
1) A home inventory helps you:
- • Accurately identify your possessions and re-evaluate your insurance coverage;
- • Ensure claims are settled faster, with less stress involved.
2) Having a professional third party provide a complete home inventory will:
- • Maximize your complete protection process while easily keeping it up-to-date;
- • Professionally document all your possessions for many uses including estate planning, pre-nuptial agreements, or divorce. CPR Home Inventory Services works with you and your attorney in situations when an uninvolved third party may be required.
3) Inventory before moving your home or office
- • A detailed inventory will be a valuable asset when moving if you need to file a claim with your moving company for loss or damage.
- • An inventory of what you are moving, with its value and condition documented, allows you to determine if you need to purchase additional insurance before the move. Are your high value items adequately covered?
4) Average time required to complete a home inventory
- • The average home or office (1,800 to 2,000 sq. feet) requires about 3-4 hours for the in-home portion of the inventory. (*See note)
- • Each home or office is unique, and extensive collections, plus garages and basements, may require additional time depending on contents.
5) Security measures to protect you
- • Your home inventory is processed to print and digital media on a computer that is not part of a network domain or connected to the Internet.
- • All information is deleted from the computer at the completion of the home inventory and then stored in a secure off-site location.
- • CPR Home Inventory Service will never disclose personal information about you or your property to any merchants or agencies.
- • Inventories are maintained in our storage facility for one full year. They may then be updated or otherwise will be destroyed.
